DEVOTIONAL DAY EIGHT

Bible Verse

2 Thessalonians 1: 3-4, 12
Dear brothers and sisters, we can’t help but thank God for you, because your faith is flourishing and your love for one another is growing. We proudly tell God’s other churches about your endurance and faithfulness in all the persecutions and hardships you are suffering. Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored because of the way you live, and you will be honored along with him. This is all made possible because of the grace of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ.

Key Principle

As we grow in faith in God and love for one another, we praise and glorify God by the way we live.

Reflection

When Paul visited the church in Thessalonica, he found they were suffering in many ways. They were being persecuted from outside the church for their faith in Christ. They were also dealing with false prophets and prophecies inside the church. Yet, through all this, the faith that Jesus was Lord and Savior continued to grow stronger for church members. And they loved each other and that love was increasing. Paul praised the Thessalonians to encourage them. But he also wanted them to know that by living in this loving way, they brought honor to God’s name in the world.

The way we show our own faith and love for God and our fellow believers makes a difference in our world. God’s grace makes it possible to honor and praise Him, no matter how difficult our circumstances are, if we will keep the faith and love.

Application

How do you react when you come up against troubles? Do you remember God’s promise to be with us in all trials? Are you loving to those around you, who could be struggling too? How can you show your growing faith and love?

Prayer

Father God, thank you for giving us Your Son as our Savior. Help me to always remember that I’m never alone, no matter what I face. You are always with me. May I continue to grow closer to You and to increase in my love for fellow believers. With this love, together we can reflect Your glory to the world. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
