And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.
God will provide all we need because of His love for us.
I witnessed a miracle once – not a ‘Parting Of The Red Sea’ sized miracle, but one that I will never forget, nonetheless. During my senior year at Bethel University, I helped campus ministries and other Resident Assistants at a senior high Bible Camp retreat. The final Saturday night session was taught by Bethel’s campus pastor and the lesson was on the parable of the Widow’s Offering (Luke 21: 1-4) – it dealt with giving God all you have, no matter how small you feel it is.
Because this parable talks about money, the camp was supposed to provide us with 500 pennies – enough to pass out two pennies to each camper – as a reminder that God can use anything we are willing to give Him. However, right before the final Bible session, the pennies were nowhere to be found. We all scrambled through our purses and wallets and came up with approximately 50 pennies – enough for 25 kids. ‘Oh well, whatever, life will go on’ we all thought as we sat in the back and prayed for the students who had just heard the sermon.
We could hear the students taking two pennies out of the offering plates and passing the plates on to the next person – but the sounds never stopped. Once the plates got to the back of the room, there were still approximately 50 pennies in the plates. We all assumed that the camp staff had come to the rescue at the last moment and discovered the missing 500 pennies… but they hadn’t. Instead, God had supplied enough pennies for every student to use as an object lesson – and it is one that I will never forget.
Do you look for God’s hand in your day-to-day life? Can you see His miracles in the daily provision He gives you? Do you trust His love and care to extend to all areas of your life?
Dear Lord, please help me to remember that You love and care about everything in our lives. Please help me to trust that You will provide in whatever situation I am going through today. May I remember that You are capable of and have done great miracles – but You also care enough to provide for my smaller, daily needs as well. Let me trust Your love to know what is needed and to provide it. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
