DEVOTIONAL DAY TWENTY-ONE

Bible Verse

Galatians 6:2
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Key Principle

As followers of Christ, we should help each other with the difficulties we all experience in life.

Reflection

The phrase “the law of Christ” is found only here, in Paul’s letter to the Galatian church. While it doesn’t have a specific definition, it’s clear from Paul’s teachings that he agreed with Jesus’ summary of the Old Testament law — to love God with all your heart and to love your neighbor as yourself. And here, Paul gives a very specific direction on how you can live according to that law. Help each other through difficulties, encourage and lift one another up through hard times.

Carrying each other’s burdens doesn’t just fulfill the “love your neighbor” part of Jesus’ summary. If you have given God your whole heart, His heart of love becomes yours. You will love His people as He does. By helping each other with our struggles, we become God’s hands and feet in the world.

Application

Do you see how your love for God is expressed by your love for others? What are some ways you can help fellow believers with their burdens?

Prayer

Lord God, thank You for the love You have shown me. Help me to show that same love to others around me. Help me seek out others who are in need and lift them up by carrying their burden as though it were my own. May I always desire to fulfill Your law of love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
