DEVOTIONAL DAY TWENTY-THREE

Bible Verse

Matthew 25:40
The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Key Principle

God sees the love and service we show to others as love and service shown to Him.

Reflection

In Matthew 25, Jesus is speaking to his followers about what the end times will be like. He speaks in parables of being prepared at any time for the coming of the Kingdom, and of using the gifts we have been given for God’s glory. In verses 31-46, Jesus tells us that, in the final judgement, those who have shown love and served others have done these things for Christ Himself. He commends this behavior saying, “Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.” (Matthew 25:34).

When we feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, show hospitality to strangers, clothe and nurse those in need, and visit prisoners, we are doing what God Himself wishes done for others. When we love and serve others in difficult circumstances, we are showing them the love of Jesus. They get the chance to know God through us. And we will be blessed by blessing others.

Application

Do you think of yourself as God’s ambassador? When you help others, have you thought that you are showing your love for God? If you view loving and serving others as loving God, how will it impact your choices?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for trusting me to represent You in this world. Help me to show Your love and grace to others in everything I do. May I always use the gifts and blessings You have given me to bless others in my life. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
