The scandal of Christianity is that God came to earth and that He came to suffer in behalf of His creation. These verses remind us that God, Himself, came to earth on that first Christmas. God came to live among us and through His Spirit (at Pentecost) to live within us. The invitation of Christmas is the invitation to live in intimate relationship with God.
All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son and they will call him Immanuel – which means God with us. Matthew 1:22-23
In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. The Word be-came flesh and lived for awhile among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:1,14
Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him and he with me. Revelation 3:20
